What is MDF
Medium Density Fiberboard, commonly called MDF, is certified as an oriented strand board. It is an engineered wood product that has gained its reputation amongst the work industries in woodworking such as Zhizheng. So, we have an insulated portion of our services that specifies our expertise in MDF and its application. MDF is produced by using wax and resin binders to wood fibers obtained from breaking down hardwood or softwood residuals and thereby binding them together with heat and pressure into flat panels. The outcome from this process yields a smoother, denser, and more uniform material than many commercially available products.
Characteristics of MDF
It can be argued that the majority of the advent and popularity of MDF is due to its properties and characteristics which are deemed to be better or advantageous as compared to Solid Wood. MDF boasts and prides itself on having greater strength and consistency in density that allows it to be less susceptible to warping or splitting. Not only this, MDF can produce a perfect surface for painting or veneering. However, there is a reason why specific weight is stated as a drawback and may be applicable on the lighter wood as MDF does not have wood grain hence suggesting that it may not hold screws well. Regardless of these notable points, the reasons why MDF is widely used are due to their cheap price and easy workability reasons.
Uses of MDF
The usages of MDF are numerous and different. In the case of furniture production, MDF is widely utilized for cabinets, shelves, and decorative moldings. It is also widely used in the manufacturing of internal doors and window frames. Apart from furniture, MDF finds usage in the manufacturing of loudspeaker cabinets, showroom display boxes, and also in the making of some musical instruments. Its capability can be called a product of the skill and ingenuity of the designers and manufacturers.
Handling MDF
In case you are handling MDF, be sure to adhere to maximum allowable safety measures. Sawing or sanding MDF will release dust, and inhalation of that dust could be dangerous, thus, using dust masks and working in cross-ventilated areas is a must. MDF can be festooned using standard woodworking tools such as drills and saws, but make sure that the blades work well to limit chipping. For finishing MDF, it is usual to sand it down to smooth the surface before painting, staining or even putting on a veneer.
Environmental Issues
The effects of MDF on the environment tend to disturb some consumers and suppliers alike. At Zhizheng we want to keep our products environmentally friendly and so we provide our customers with the environmentally safe MDF. Using the source materials that are accredited as socially and environmentally safe, consumers can benefit from MDF whilst also helping to limit adverse environmental effects.
